Visit to the Interpretation Center of Latest Defence of Barcelona
10.30h to 13h
In the museum space there is an audiovisual installation of local eye-witness accounts and a permanent exhibition of objects found in various fortifications and collections of written press materials from the period.
The visit lasts 45 minutes. The CIUDEB offers two guided tours through the forest to visit the nearest trenches and machine gun hideouts. The guided tours are dramatized by the same local historians who have documented the findings to date.
“The Last Defence of Barcelona refers to the events that took place in Subirats on January 22nd and 23rd, 1939. Following the defensive lines drawn by General Vicente Rojo, the Republican soldiers built fortifications on both sides of the N-340 motorway from El Pago to the Coll d’Ordal, but the Francoist army carried out a maneuver to encircle the troops loyal to the Republic. The weakened troops resisted for a couple of days, affording many Republicans the opportunity to flee Barcelona into exile.”
