"Calidoscope of Songs"
A production of VINEA ENSEMBLE

A concert with the songs that make up this concerto was written by Beethoven over eleven years. When he was already a renowned composer and was based in Vienna, he was visited by a Scottish publisher, George Thompson, who commissioned him to arrange popular melodies from different countries. Thompson had been collecting and publishing songs from various European towns for years, and had previously commissioned composers such as Haydn and Pleyel. He believed that, in order to counter the aristocratic splendor of the Baroque, art had to be inspired by the basis, in the popular, simple and direct songs.

On February 26, 2023, the project premiered at the Teatre del Centre Parroquial de Ribes (Garraf) with the performance of a collection of songs from all over Europe arranged by the great Germanic genius; as well as other fragments for instrumental trio such as the Kakadu Variations (op. 121); all accompanied by the narration of the musical disseminator David Puertas, as a voice of the missive between Beethoven and his nephew

The stage show that invites you to travel around a continent without borders, where the popular melodies of each place are given hands through a story of joy, spirituality and introspection of being.

The Penedesian chamber ensemble was formed at the end of 2022 with the creation of the project.
