Olèrdola Castle Historical Heritage Site

Place of interest
Conjunt Monumental d'Olèrdola

The Olèrdola Castle Monument complex, traces of history in Penedès.

This archaeological site, strategically located between the Penedès plain and the Garraf, is the most representative example of the historical development of the region. Since prehistoric times its inhabitants have left their mark along the rocky platform; remains of the Bronze and Iron Ages, an Iberian settlement, a cistern and an impressive military Roman fortification, a medieval city with pre-Romanesque and Romanesque churches, a castle and anthropomorphic medieval tombs carved into the rock make up part of this extraordinary archaeological and historical record.

The Olèrdola Castle Monument complex, since 1971 opened to the public, is today one of the headquarters of the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia (MAC). It was also declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest in 1931 and an Asset of Cultural Interest, thanks to its archaeological, historical and monumental importance.

We recommend you to wear hiking shoes, comfortable clothes of coat or a cap for the only as the station, and to carry water. Along the year we offer several guided visits to the castle and  to the Natural Park. Otherwise, there is a round path tahat surrendes the castle of Olèrdola

Come and discover how the site has been the object of successive human occupations since ancient times and enjoy this magnificent historical complex in the Olèrdola Natural Park in the heart of Penedès.
